The Blue Ridge Earth Science Collaborative will be offering a Geology of Virginia course for teachers in Virginia in July 2014. The course will be two weeks long, split into two one week sessions with a week break in between. The first week will run from July 7-July 11 and the second week from July 21-25, 2014 . The course will be held at James Madison University in Harrisonburg. It will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. everyday, with a few field trips during the course. Housing and a modest meals stipend are available for teachers that cannot commute each day. For completing the course, teachers will receive 3 graduate credit hours, a textbook, and educational materials. Teachers are responsible for paying $150 in tuition for the course. Please check with your school division on reimbursement policies for professional development courses. Your school division may cover some or all of the cost.
To apply for the course, please fill in the appropriate information and answer all questions. Please do not apply for the course unless you can commit to attending every day July 7-July 11 and everyday July 21-25, 2014. When you have completed the application, a thank you screen will appear letting you know that it has been received.
Funds for the Blue Ridge Earth Science Collaborative courses are provided by a grant from the federal Improving Teacher Quality State Grant (Title II, Part A) Professional Development Program administered by the State Council for Higher Education for Virginia.
